December 8th–University of Calgary Board of Governors Tuition Decision Meeting
The University of Calgary Board of Governors meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Blue Room of the Dining Centre. All students are encouraged to attend and to show their support against further tuition increases.
Last February, Premier Ralph Klein told the province that a new tuition policy would be created by September 2006, one that is “the most innovative, entrepreneurial, and affordable tuition policy in the country… We will do whatever it takes to make sure money isn’t a barrier to attending Alberta’s post-secondary institutions.”
Alberta currently has the second highest average undergraduate tuition in Canada, a result of chronic underfunding from the government, combined with a provincial tuition policy that ties maximum tuition increases to the operating budget of the institution, instead of taking affordability to the student into account.

December 9th–Snow Pants Day
After a semester of school holding you down, it is time to let that beast in you out. Come down to the Den early on Friday, December 9th for a day of rock’n’roll and partying. The day will be full of drink specials and rock music to let you sit back and enjoy all the hard work you put in over the last four months. The afternoon will be capped off with a set of music by Calgary’s ultimate 80’s rock cover band, Broken Toyz, at 4 p.m.
And in keeping with tradition, wear your snow pants to win over that person you have been eyeing in your class. Prizes will be given out to the people who bust out the coolest snow pants from their closets.
See you all at 11 a.m. on December 9th!
