The Dirtmitts have been rocking the local indie scene in Vancouver for almost five years now, and after receiving a nomination for the Georgia Straight’s “Best Band of 2001” they went back into the studio to record their second album.
Get On is a true collaboration of all of the band’s members’ talents. Natasha Thirsk provides lead vocals on the majority of the songs, but guitarist Dallas Kruszelnicki belts out “The tag is it,” and bassist Jen Deon takes the reins on “Get the minus gone.” Thirsk’s vocals are a welcomed contrast against the gritty power chords, although there isn’t much variation in the song structures as a whole. The lyrics themselves are fairly abstract but not without meaning. You can definitely tell that there is something to them, but Thirsk is slightly guarded.
Now don’t get me wrong, there are some great songs here, but it is just too bad that most of the disc sounds the same.
