Audiovent’s debut album reinforces the old adage, “you can’t judge a book by its cover.” You might expect something wild or funky from a disc called Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris. However, after hearing the record, “run of the mill” seems more appropriate.
It’s not that the band sounds bad, it’s more that there is nothing surprising or even convincing about their songs. With lyrics like, "Every now and then I think about you/And it makes me, it breaks me," the supposed emotion behind the music sounds like uninspired pop.
Judging by the mass following of many generic rock bands, Audiovent will probably do quite well with this album. Anyone who is a fan of the many clone-rock bands that dominate commercial radio at present should check the band out. If you are looking for originality or soul you should probably save your money.
