The Students’ Union closed nominations for six faculty representatives and two academic commissioner positions that have been vacant since last year’s general election in May. These will be up for grabs in the upcoming SU by-election.
Previous by-elections have been characterized by few candidates and limited openings.
“Last year there were only three candidates for the Faculty of Communications and Culture Representative,” said SU President Jayna Gilchrist. “And that was the only election.”
This year however, 12 nominees are running for the two openings in the academic commission. There will also be a showdown in both the Fine Arts and Kinesiology Faculty Representative elections.
However, Education, Law, Medicine and Social Work faculty positions are unfilled and will remain open for nominations until Thu., Oct. 9 at noon.
