With each listen through the soundtrack to Requiem for a Dream, listeners will find themselves further and further consumed by the painful yet beautiful tracks of pure emotion. The music is composed by Clint Mansell, formerly of Pop Will Eat Itself, with the help of string ensemble Kronos Quartet, and should not be listened to by anyone suffering heart problems.
The soundtrack is a mosaic of two-minute long songs, but uses repetition in the form of remixes to have the main melodies reinforced. With each spin, listeners hear new textures and layers of depth, fueling a growing addiction for just one more listen. By far one of the best discs of the year, Clint Mansell is also releasing a remix of the album sometime in January.
