The precise moment Bermuda Shorts Day was conceived is obscured in the mists of suds, but on Apr. 15, the biggest party on campus happens. It’s likely the 45th annual BSD blowout, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on the timing. We may be challenged on the day, but we’re definitely not challenged when it comes to still bringing on the good times.
Each year BSD seems to get bigger and better – weather permitting we’re planning a three-ring circus like atmosphere – and it all takes place on the south lawn with a bit of a sprawl into various nooks and crannies in the adjacent green space. I don’t even want to mention it, but the party won’t move indoors unless it’s a freezing freaking blizzard out there.
The Students’ Union wants to recruit some student bands to play during the festivities. We’re looking for hot licks, so please send your demo tape or CD to me – Alex Vyskocil, Vice-President Events, MacEwan Student Centre 251 by Apr. 6 at the latest.
You can expect some surprises this year keeping in line with the three-ring circus theme, including some strolling entertainers, as well as the main stage bands, which feature a hot lineup and awesome talent. We’ve confirmed local rockers the Dudes, Montreal punk-raggae outfit Bedouin Soundclash, the ’80s styles of Jacuzzi Romance, the funk of Sideshow Sid and Rob Faust, and the ass-shaking party tunes of the Smalltown DJs.
Once again this year we’ll be distributing wristbands for students, and one guest per student. Look for our table in the MSC North Courtyard (beside the Stor) Apr. 11-14 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. If you want a wristband, bring photo ID that shows you’re old enough to drink. We have a limited quantity of wristbands for guests, so get organized if you want to bring someone from off campus–your guest has to be with you to receive a wrist band. Please note that wristbands will not be available on BSD so make sure you get there while we are open.
Have a look around campus, for the BSD posters which will hopefully answer all your questions about the event and check out our website at www.su.ucalgary.ca
Have fun and make sure to party smart!
