The Haskayne School of Business bachelor of commerce program will be making programming changes, focusing on ethical leadership, entrepreneurship and energy.
First-year students are currently required to take Business and Environment 291 and Computer Science 203 as prerequisites for higher-level commerce courses. These have been replaced with Strategic and Global Management 217 and Management Studies 217. Business and Environment 291 will be offered for the last time in spring 2013.
The changes will be implemented in fall 2013 and will affect incoming first-year students for fall 2013 and students transferring into the bachelor of commerce program.
“The enhancements we are making to our undergraduate education will fulfil the foundational commitment of the University of Calgary’s Eyes High vision,” said Haskayne School of Business interim dean Jim Dewald.
For transfer students completing the commerce prerequisites outside the U of C, existing transfer agreements for Business and Environment 291 equivalents will end on August 31, 2013.
Open studies student Angelica Guevara, who plans to join the program, said the details were not properly communicated to students.
“I didn’t hear it straight from the department, I heard it from a friend of mine and I was kind of taken off-guard,” said Guevara.
