Provincial governments are looking at ways to increase enrollment for people in society’s margins.
Rural, aboriginal and disabled students have a significantly lower percentage of high-school graduates attending post-secondary schools, according to Ontario’s Knowledge Economy Report.
The report acknowledges the economic impact of post-secondary education and urges the Ontario government to consider increasing funding for low-income students.
In Calgary, St. Mary’s University College, Ambrose University College and the University of Calgary sponsor a program that offers free, university-level courses to low-income adult learners.
