Congratulations to Ms. Rooseboom for her comments on the methadone clinic site controversy [“Marauding on Methadone,” April 9]. In communities throughout North America the problem of narcotic addiction is very real and has catastrophic consequences for the users and the public at large. How counter-intuitive and counter-productive to fight against services that exist to provide help to those who voluntarily come and seek it in their effort to turn their lives around. Think of it: a three-month waiting list for the only other methadone treatment service in Calgary — making people who desperately want and clearly need help continue their illicit drug use! Thanks for putting the issue into proper perspective.
