Talent
Tanya Hautala was hot a lot this season, scoring the third most points per game in Canada West and sixth most in the country with an average of 18.7. She earned CW and Canadian Interuniversity Sport Athlete of the Week when she almost single-handedly took down the University of Alberta Pandas, scoring a blistering 39 of the Dinos 70 points one night and 25 of 60 the following eve. The sporadic talent of Lindsay Maundrell was nice when it was there. Veteran Cory Bekkering had a solid final year while rookie Whitney Haswell has well established herself as a key contender.
Effort
Bekkering won the prestigious Tracey MacLeod Award for the most heart in the country. Although the Dinos struggled against some of the weaker teams this year, they also put together solid performances against some of the nation’s finest.
Coaching
Shawnee Harle and Claire Mitton form a fabulous crew that demand respect and admiration from players and peers. Their strategies keep opponents on their toes, wondering how to prepare for what the Dinos will do next. We are lucky to have such a talented pair leading our squad.
Achievement
After winning their two preseason tournaments, expectations for the Dinos were high. However, the team inexplicably under-performed after Christmas, leading to a disappointing first-round loss in CW playoffs.
Overall: B
Singer/Band: Rick James. He rose to greatness, then a combination of drugs and death left him in obscurity with no Grammy. Cruel heartless world!
