Talent
These ladies had no lack of talent. Fourth-year Social Sciences student Erin Ramsay was named to the first CIS All-Canadian team and super-senior Social Sciences student Megan Dourado was named to the second team. Both stars were also named to the Canada West First All-Star team.
Jess Horning, Charlotte Sullivan and Steph Hoogveld landed spots on the CW Second All-Star team and joined these ladies as stars. Hoogveld was tied as the division’s assist leader and was in a third place tie for goals. Sullivan had the third lowest goals against average in CW.
Effort
Through sun, rain and snow, the soccer ladies kept the whining to a minimum. Despite crappy playing conditions they managed to reach the CW playoffs and make it to the gold medal round. Unfortunately for them, there were no goals to be had against the Trinity Western University Spartans and they came up short. If there was any saving grace, it was the Spartans taking the National banner for the season.
Coaching
Head Coach Robin Slot finished up the year with a 7-5 record–respectable considering the competition. His determination kept the team’s hopes high all season, despite a few drawbacks.
Achievement
The team earned their spot in the playoffs, which says a lot. They even managed to defeat the top ranked University of British Columbia Thunderbirds team. Unfortunately, the second ranked Spartans managed to blank them in the gold medal match. As this team continues to age, they should provide for some excellent competition for the strong western teams.
Overall: B+
Singer/Band: Pantera. Because after a few years’ rough start, they came around and ruled a scene for ages.
