During my tenure as a member of the executive at the University of Alberta Students’ Union, we had several discussions over whether or not to shut down our webboard (http://webboard.su.ualberta.ca).
In my humble opinion, I think our webboard is slightly more vitriolic and antogonistic than yours (our SU being the brunt of most of that vitriol), but we kept the thing up.
There were a lot of different reasons for it, all of which I won’t get into here, but the bottom line looked like this: It’s student politics. People will be mean. Taking away the webboards won’t change that, it’ll just hide it (again).
