Canada’s top swimmers gathered in Quebec City Nov. 27-30 for the Canada Open and Short Course Swim Nationals. Shaved and tapered, the University of Calgary Dinos notched several top-eight finishes:
• Kristy Cameron – 8th 200m IM
• Dena Durand – 5th 400m IM
• Erin Gammel – 2nd 50m backstoke, 2nd 100m backstroke
• Cameron Hyder – 4th 400m IM, 6th 200m IM, 8th 200m freestyle
• Chad Murray – 3rd 200m IM, 3rd 200m butterfly, 3rd 400m IM
• Jonathan Schjott – 4th 200m butterfly
Calgary National Sports Centre swimmers Rick Say and Lauren Van Oosten broke national records in the 200m freestyle (1:43.68) and 200m breaststroke (2:25.47), respectively. Veteran swimmer Joanne Malar earned a national title in the 400m IM (4:38.39).
Meanwhile, in Richmond, British Columbia, Dino rookie Morgan Engi raced to national qualifying standards for the first time in the 1500m freestyle and 400m IM.
