1978. That was the last time Elvis Costello graced a stage in our fair city. I was born two years later. Still, I could barely contain my anticipation all day Thursday, knowing he was the first big name to entertain this year’s throng of Folk Fest faithful.
That’s what happens when you’re one of the greatest musical minds of your generation.
After a great early evening lineup incl-uding acts such as Ricky Skaggs and Sondre Lerche primed the masses, Elvis took the stage and didn’t disappoint. A brilliantly stripped down performance (just a piano and a guitar) had the almost 10,000 in attendance in a collective hush while the near 30-year veteran mesmerized us all.
With a voice so gripping it sends chills down your spine and makes your hair stand on end and an impeccable knack for timing, Costello was everything I expected and more.
