Starting July 1, Michael McAdam, the Vice-President Administration for the University of Manitoba, will become the new Vice-President Finance and Services at this university. McAdam previously served at the University of Calgary as an Associate VP Finance.
U of M Students’ Union President Sean Alwis is sad to see such a strong student advocate leave U of M. Alwis remarked it was always a pleasure to work with McAdam.
"It is with regret that UMSU learned that we’d be losing such a strong student advocate within administration and there is no doubt that Manitoba’s loss will be Calgary’s gain," said Alwis. "Mr. McAdam will be missed by many as both a colleague and friend."
U of C VP External Roman Cooney sees McAdam as a great addition to the team.
"He knows the challenges. He’s well-respected at the university. He’s prepared to work with us to see through the budget changes and academic plan," said Cooney.
McAdam is eager to reacquaint himself with the U of C and Calgary. He prides himself on working to ensure post-secondary education is accessible.
"Students shouldn’t be denied because they can’t afford it," said McAdam. "I see fees as one component of accessibility issues, but they are not the only sole thing when it comes to accessibility. There are scholarships and loans as well."
SU President Jayna Gilchrist has one hope for McAdam.
"I hope he does what’s best for undergraduates, since they make up the majority of campus."
