The University of Calgary announced on Tue., Feb. 25 plans to build the O’Brien Centre for the Bachelor of Health Sciences Program. Thanks to a $5 million donation by David and Gail O’Brien, 75 undergraduate students per year will be able to studies the areas of Biomedical Sciences, Bioinformatics, or Health and Society.
"We believe that the… program will attract applications from some of the very best students across Canada," said U of C President Harvey Weingarten.
David O’Brien has been a U of C Governor since 1997 and Gail O’Brien has chaired the Faculty of Medicine’s Dean’s Advisory Council since 1991.
"The Bachelor of Health Sciences Program fits perfectly in our combined interest in education and health," said David O’Brien.
The building will be on land adjacent to the Foothills Hospital.
