This past weekend’s action was no Stars on Ice performance. It was a chance to see the second-ranked Dinos take on the top-ranked University of Alberta Golden Bears.
The fury started on Friday in Calgary and the Dinos were looking to steal game one from the Golden Bears with the home crowd advantage. Unfortunately, the U of A was ready and able to prevent the Dinos from stealing the game.
Alberta came out strong and outshot
Calgary 40-25. The Bears put in the first two goals of the game but the Dinos fought back with two of their own in the second period. Thanks to Adam Loncan and Sean Robertson, the home team made it close but the final result was a 3-2 win for the Golden Bears.
Game two was a road trip to Edmonton, and after losing the first at home, the Dinos knew they would have to be at their best.
Again Calgary was outshot 34-21 and again the red and gold gave up the first two goals. Jason Boyd put Calgary within one late in the first, but the Bears added another. Dino Travis George made it 3-2 but it was inevitable that the U of A was going to add another. The game ended in a 4-2 Dinos defeat.
The two losses drop Calgary to third in the nation while Alberta remains on top. The Dinos visit UBC Nov. 15-16 for a two game set.
