Although our field hockey team did not make it to CIS nationals, all thir effort did not go unnoticed.
Three Dinos will be recognized for their play–play that will put them on the honour role as field hockey All-Canadians.
The first to be recognized, is fifth-year veteran forward Ashley Reaburn who was named to the first team. A graduate from the faculty of Kinesiology, this 22-year-old has more than just this latest accomplishment to be proud of. Reaburn has also been a proud recipiant of the CIS Royal Bank Academic All-Canadian status three years running. Reaburn has played internationally as member of Canada’s Junior National Team and is now a top prospect for the women’s National Team–a fine reward for leading Calgary in scoring with six goals to finish the season.
The Dinos not only had a player earn First Team All-Canadian status, but they also had two clinch the title of CIS Second Team All-Canadians, Kelsey Barrie, a nursing graduate from the U of C, is now in her fifth and final year as a Dino. This 23-year-old has a lot to be proud of. As a team co-captain with Reaburn, she also shares the accoplishment of being a CIS Royal Bank Academic All-Canadian. Barrie performed so well this season that it earned her the title of Canada West All-Star.
Elizabeth Allen is also a Second Team All-Canadian. Allen is now in her third year of Communication and Culture at the University of Calgary and has been a starter for the Dinos for the past three years. At 21, Allen is still young and will have a lot to offer her team in years to come.
