The Weekend, Teaser EP

What could possibly be worse than the movie Josie and the Pussycats? A band that sounds exactly like them!

This four-piece band calls this a Teaser EP, but it’s more like a lollipop for some young "punk" chick. It’s almost unbelievable that The Weekend opened for such amazing acts as Green Day and The Get Up Kids. The songs on the album all sound the same: pop-punk with a fair sprinkling of bubble-gum flavour.

Lyrics such as "I was in love with your hairspray… My eighties rock star" make them look like punk humour try-hards.

I wouldn’t be surprised if The Weekend ends up alongside all the other one-hit wonders. And if they do disappear in two years, all I have to say is good riddance.

Put away the cynical post-teenage angst for a second and think back to the days when your only goal in life was to pack your day with as much unadulterated fun as possible. The latest pre-release from Ontario punk-pop-rock outfit The Weekend may have what it takes to bring listeners back to this magical time.

Empowered with catchy lyrics, pumped-up guitar and a touch of synth, this four-member band has far more than just your typical girl-rock edge to it, bringing with them a fresh take on a rediscovered light. The Weekend’s Teaser EP is a musical incarnation of all our sweetened feelings-past, present, or unfamiliar-reminding us no matter how bad it may seem, there’s still fun that needs to be had before the week is done.
