Catchy pop tunes with a light jazz flavour make Parkside Jones’ latest release the amazing catch that it is. Ranging from the instrumental horn track “After X” to the thumping rhythm line of the discs’ first track, Dream of Being Orange takes the cake for new indie albums. Singer Rhyna Thompson guides the band through their well-crafted tunes with a style reminiscent of The Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan. Atmosphere plays as much a part on the EP as the solid rhythm and hauntingly beautiful keyboard lines.
Though extremely good, I do have one complaint with Dream of Being Orange. As soon as you’re really getting into the album, the five tracks are done. I guess I’ll just have to pick up some of their other discs.
P.S.-You can catch Parkside Jones live this Monday, June 24, in the Ballroom with Bullfrog featuring Kid Koala. Tickets are $20.00 and are available through Ticketmaster.
