David Byrne, take a bow. Thursday night saw a healthy variety of folk, blues, pop and world music. Yet, it was former Talking Heads member Byrne who had the most "wow" factor. Playing with a band that included three violins, one cello and a set of African drums, Byrne slid up and down a playlist including Talking Heads standards, new material and an irony-free take on Whitney Houston’s "I Wanna Dance with Somebody." Dressed in ‘forest ranger’ gear, Byrne’s afro-celt beat rallied the crowd and this began a fabulous weekend of music.
Prior to Byrne, blues bunch Tri-Continental put the boogie on. Comprised of Madagascar Slim, Bill Bourne and local guitarist Lester Quitzau, Tri-Continental’s guitar mastery likely inspired new six-string heroes.
