What’s the best way to build confidence? For the Dinos, it’s by embarrassing your opponent by 29 points.
After being embarrassed themselves by the Golden Bears last weekend, and losing by eight on Friday (86-78), the men’s basketball team came together to crush the hapless University of Manitoba Bisons by a score of 93-64. Led by big man Rich Wiebach, the always prolific John Riad and the electrifyingly quick rookie Whit Hornsberger, the Dinos’ left everyone wondering how they could possibly lose games.
When they play together as a team they’re unstoppable, and at the Jack on Saturday it showed as they grabbed a 23-8 lead early and never looked back.
The big time win sends the Dinos’ into the break on a high note despite a shaky first half that sees them in a tie for fifth place in Canada West with a 4-6 record. The next action they’ll see is in the new year when they travel to Regina, a homecoming of sorts for Hornsberger who played high school ball there. The Dinos will play a two game set with the national doormat, the 1-7 University of Regina Cougars, on Jan. 5-6.
